And take note of the rare chrome “eyebrow” headlight covers. The fender skirts sitting over the wide whitewall tires is Americana at its finest. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird looks stunning finished in Thunderbird Blue (Turquoise, code “T”) over Turquoise/ White (code “C”) interior. It was a two-seat design available with a detachable glass-fiber hardtop and a folding fabric top (both included here). Though sharing some design characteristics with other Fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the Thunderbird was sleeker in shape and featured a hood scoop and a 150 mph speedometer not available on other Fords. But unlike the Corvette, it was not marketed as a sports car. The Ford Thunderbird was introduced in February 1953 as a response to Chevrolet's new sports car, the Corvette. Ford positioned the Thunderbird as an upscale model and it was credited in developing a new market segment, the personal luxury car. The first-generation Thunderbird was produced from 1955-57, but the brand remained in production to 1997, then re-introduced from 2002 to 2005 creating 11 distinct generations. Collectible Motor Car of Atlanta is proud to offer this fantastic 1955 Ford Thunderbird.
