By pulling the handle away from the door slightly, the thief can get at the rod running across the door cavity, even though there is no lock cylinder. Installing the rear plates will help prevent access to the latch and rods inside the door. Also, the door latch assembly is just below the handle on these doors and can be easily reached with a screwdriver and/or short piece of wire.
